configuring your Sipura

We recommend buying a Linksys/Sipura SPA-2102 unit from Voxilla.com. These instructions are specific to the SPA-2102 (although the config will be very similar for the SPA-1001).

Go to
http://www.freeworlddialup.com/
to register and get your 6-digit VOIP number with FWD.

Next, use the following instructions for freshly configuring your Sipura unit via an online form from Voxilla.

After logging in at Voxilla, point your browser to
http://voxilla.com/ataconfig.php
which is also "VoIP Tools" => "Device Config Wizards".

For the SPA-2100 unit, click on the link labeled "Linksys (Sipura) SPA-1000/1001/2000/2002/2100".

Your SPA LAN IP address is the set of numbers you get from the Sipura by lifting the handset and quickly dialing "****" then, after hearing the voice prompt, dialing "110#". The number you will hear might be something like "192.168.1.103".

Now, there are only three configurations for Free World Dialup. It is possible to quickly try all three until you find one that works for you. In order of likely success, try:
(1) NAT with STUN, then
(2) fwdnat proxy, and last
(3) No NAT.
There is a very good chance either #1 or #2 will work; it's unlikely, if 1 & 2 don't work, that #3 will, but it is good to exhaust possibilities if you have to talk to a *real* computer techie later on :-).

Your Display name will be whatever you told FWD it is, e.g. "John Doe" (omit the quotes).

Your User ID will be your FWD number "abcdef" (omit the quotes).

Your Auth ID will be left blank.

Your Password is whatever you told FWD it is.

Skip to the bottom of the form and set your timezone.

Then press the "Configure My SPA" button.

After it tells you it's done, pick up the phone and see if you have a dialtone. Dialtone means you are connected to the FreeWorld Dialup (FWD) service.

If you don't hear a dialtone after about 1 minute of letting it try to register, try the next configuration from above.

Fill out the rest of the form the same for all Free World Dialup configurations you try.

When you get a dialtone, dial 613 and see if you can make the automated "echo test" work.

If that works, then call whomever else you know with a simple 6-digit FWD number.

Other Providers?

If you would like to configure the second VoIP line on your Sipura (SPA-2102 or SPA-1001), it's essentially similar to the FWD story above. I like to have a second VoIP service, which charges low rates for outgoing (local and) international calls on my Line 2. This page from CallCentric shows how.
